You Are Brave
Those words were a comment to the pic (below) that I posted on my Facebook Page, Scattered Sasha.
I wasn’t positive how posting this Snit Wiggle Troll designed hair-do made me Brave, but I’ve been called worse, so didn’t think too much about it.
Until I KEPT hearing those words.
And I wanted to dig a little deeper to the thought process of what being Brave really meant, especially when it’s about posting a picture on Facebook.
See, I think they meant that I was Brave for posting a picture of me that made me look….how shall we say it….like a hot mess train wreck heading full steam ahead into chaos and confusion.
(Which pretty much describes my life, so I was ok with that.)
There’s this illusion that Facebook pictures aren’t real….that the perfect shots of people with this years clothes, great hair and matching shoes are all ‘props’, and their life behind the scenes is filled with just as much chaos and confusion as everyone else because if it’s not, then OMG WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???
But that’s not my take on it.
Nope, I see it a little bit differently.
I might be a rebel.
See, I think most of us are just trying to figure it out as we go along because we really don’t know the rules.
I think most of us don’t have the time to plan an elaborate ruse of perfect photos, great hair and matching shoes.
I think most of us ARE real, and the pictures we choose to post are the best ones we have and the worst ones we have.
Because we WANT to show off our best side but we also want to know we’re not the only ones going through the worst times either.
So we post those professional photos, and the ones our bestie took when we were looking aMAZing and the light was perfect and the ones of our kids BEFORE they have the fancy dinner in the fancy dress. And we also post those pictures of the chaos that is life, the ones that show us raw, and the messy world that surrounds us.
THESE pictures are what’s brave….showing the world who we really are. All of us, the good, the bad and the ugly all wrapped up in one person.
So, to that original comment about ME being brave…..
But I prefer to think of it as being Real.
Because that’s EXACTLY what my hair looks like Every. Single. Morning.
And that’s about as real as you can get.
